Gerald Celente Shoots The Straight Dope

On German Radio, Gerald Celente explains why the people are angry and how this will manifesto in revolutions. On the other hand governments will seek to head off revolution by taking away civil rights and the curb freedom of expression by shutting down the internet. Ultimately, if the governments can't suppress the masses, they will lead us to war. We are in The Greatest Depression. The good news is that petrol based energy is on its way out to be replaced by revolutionary new sources of energy.

Liberation-USSR Film Series 1970-71

Liberation (Russian: Освобожде́ние, translit. Osvobozhdenie, German: 'Befreiung', Polish: 'Wyzwolenie') is an epic five-part film series (combined running time: 445 minutes) considered as the most colossal WWII movie ever made in the Soviet Union. Filmed from 1968 to 1971, the first part was released during 1970 for the 25th anniversary of Victory Day. The films were a Soviet-Polish-East German-Italian-Yugoslavian co-production (by the studios Mosfilm, ZF-Start/PRF-ZF, Deutsche Film AG, Dino de Laurentiis Cinematografica and Avala Film, respectively) although chiefly made in the USSR. They were directed by Yuri Ozerov. The script was written by Yuri Bondarev and Oscar Kurganov.

Bernard White and The Right Wing Take Over of Progressive Radio In The US

Bernard White, former producer and program director of WBAI Pacifica radio in New York was sacked by the Pacifica network executives in 2009. Pacifica is five station network founded 50 years ago dedicated to anti-war and free speech. Pacifica played a key role during the Free Speech Movement at UC Berkeley during the 1960s as well as the anti-war and freedom movement for Black, Latino and American Indians.
As program director at WBAI, White oriented the station format focused on Black and Latino history, as well as their struggles past and present. This alienated and frightened the establishment, in particular liberals.
A civil war has taken place within the entire Pacifica network. Black and Latino Station and Program managers have been sacked at the New York and Washington, DC stations. In Berkeley, there was an incident of the police beating a Black woman on the station premises. In the following videos, Bernard White explains what's happening and provides extensive analysis and insight.

WikiLeaks exposes US complicity in murder, torture, by Egyptian government

From World Socialist Website:
"The documents, diplomatic cables from the US embassy in Cairo from 2009 and 2010, make clear that the Obama administration was well aware that the Mubarak regime held onto power by terrorizing the population. But Washington tacitly supported the dictatorship and its crimes because Egypt is considered the most important component to US strategy for a wide region encompassing the Middle East, the Maghreb, and the Horn of Africa.
Perhaps the most damning cable is from Ambassador Margaret Scobey, dated January 15, 2009. The letter calls police brutality “routine and pervasive” and states that “police using force to extract confessions from criminals [is] a daily event.” Embassy informants “estimate there are literally hundreds of torture incidents every day in Cairo police stations alone.”

Gerald Celente: The Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission Was a Whitewash

Insurrection In Egypt-Updates

Update 23:30
President Mubarek just signed his death warrant. What an extraordinarily arrogant man! Not only has he indicated that he isn't stepping down but he threathened the masses more using the language of homeland security.
Mubarek sacked the cabinet in the parialment. He thinks that Egpyptians are as stunned as they look. Mubarek even had the nerve to say that the protests took place because of the "freedoms given over the past few years." He blamed his ministers and absolved any responsibility from himself. Even worse, Mubarek insisted that neo-liberalism will continue apace. The dictatorship of the banking and finance has drawn the line in the sand with Egypt. Immediately after his speech, thousands are marching through the streets shouting "Down, down with Mubarek!"
Well, he tore his ass up once and for all with the masses. He had one last chance to exit gracefully. Now, he will go involuntarily. His speech will go down in history as "let them eat cake". He will be lucky if he gets out with a few thousand dollars stuffed in his pockets applying for asylum as a refugee in Israel.

Egypt has a long bloody revolution ahead.
That's all for my coverage of Egypt's insurrection today. For more coverage go to The Guardian website and check out Al Jazeera.
It was a historic day. I'm glad to be alive to help create the historical record.

Egyptian Government Shuts Down Internet As It Wages War Against Egyptians

The Most Recent raw footage from today 28.01.2011

The revolution continues to be a deadly affair in Egypt. The regime of Hosni Mubarek refuses to back down. The United States has effectively given the green light to use lethal repression against the masses. The stakes are too high for American imperialism. If Egypt undergoes a successful revolution, this would be the death knell of American domination of the Middle East. Israel would also be vulnerable as Egypt provides secondary security to the country after the United States.

"Birthers", Anti-Immigration and The Repeal Of The 14th Amendment

The recent Mid-Term elections in the US was freak show event. From Rand Paul in Kentucky to Carl Paladino in New York, Tea Party candidates have swept Primary races knocking aside the establishment candidates of the Republican Party. Their political pronouncements and policy platforms represent a shift to the far-right in American politics. Rand Paul is on record stating that he believes the Title II section of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, which prohibits racial discrimination in private business, is an infringement of Constitutional rights. Nevada Senate candidate Sharron Angle has suggested armed insurrection and revolution against the government. Carl Paladino has called for the poor on welfare to be sent to prison in order to learn “personal hygiene.

Analysis on The Political Crisis In Albania

The following article from World Socialist Website confirms the analysis made by this blog on Monday regarding the role of Edi Rama during last week's insurrection in Albania.

"The Socialist Party (PS) of Edi Rama and affiliated organizations called for the demonstration last Friday and have sought to place themselves at the head of the protests in order to keep them under control. But their criticisms of the criminal activities of the government and call to fight against corruption are entirely hypocritical."

URGENT: Canadian Radio Television Commission to Accept Comment Until Feb. 9th on Allowing False and Misleading Information Purposely

The following was sent to me from a radio journalist in Montreal. It appears that the Conservative Reform Alliance Party (CRAP) under Prime Minister Stephen Harper is pursuing the agenda to destroy the integrity of media in Canada. If you live in Canada please take action as instructed below. If you don't live in Canada, the information is instructive to the erosion of democracy happening in Canada.

The CRTC would like to change its rules so that they will allow intentionally false and misleading information to be broadcast as long is it does not "endanger or likely to endanger the lives, safety, or health of the public".  As Stephen Scharper  points out below, the clause saying the false material must not endanger the public is worthless because the CRTC does not specify who will judge whether intentionally false or misleading material does or has endangered the pubic. This is timed conveniently to protect the appearance in March of the right-wing SUN TV News station.
The CRTC is accepting comments on its proposed ruling change only until Feb. 9. For information on how to submit comments, visit http://www.crtc.gc.ca/eng/archive/2011/2011-14.htm
For the email response site: https://services.crtc.gc.ca/pub/instances-proceedings/Default.aspx?Status=Open&PubArea=Brd&PubType=All&PubSubType=All&lang=eng
[The Minister responsible for the CRTC is James Moore, Minister of Cdn. Heritage.  While no email address is given out, his fax is 819 994 1267; his phone no.  is 819-997-7788, accessible 9-5 EST.]

Apocalypse Scams, Parasites and Right Wing Radio

There's an online infomerical called End of America3 (not to be confused with the progressive documentary  The End of America based on the book by Naomi Wolf) presented by an investment adviser from Baltimore. He spells out quite cogently that it's game over for the US. He predicts the country will collapse in 2011. Basically, he went through all the facts which most informed people already know. Then comes the rub, first he promises to dedicate his services towards "saving your property and wealth" and he assures to help you "prosper and make money over the next 5 years."

The Limitations of Multiculturalism

At first appearance, the West German city of Cologne seems like any typical 21st century developed city. It is a diverse multicultural city of nearly one million inhabitants. In recent years, it grabbed international headlines when some citizens oraganised a political movement to stop the building of a Mosque in the city.  In 2009, leaders of national European far-right and fascist political parties attempted to organise an Anti-Islamic conference. Thousands of anti-fascist protesters disrupted the conference and chased the politicians and their supporters out of Cologne. One would think that Cologne is an anti-racist city but is it really?

What Is Wrong With Arizona? Part 1

No American state has received as much negative publicity over the past 20 year as Arizona has. The last time a state received as much derision was Mississippi back during the 1960s. In the post-civil rights era, Arizona alone has surpassed the entire Deep South for having a government and populace contemptuous of civil and human rights. In less than a span of one year Arizona has been the centre of legal and political controversy. From its xenophobic anti-immigrant laws up to this month's political assassination attempt of Congresswoman Giffords, Arizona has been branded as  a region of social backwardness and reaction. This begs the question why? What is wrong with Arizona?

Albania Revolution Update

3 anti-government protesters were shot dead by the police in Tirana on Friday. Tensions remain high as the EU has appealed for calm. Of course, there's absolutely nothing the EU can do. This produces more problems for Western imperialism as another NATO member state begins to politically disintegrate.
The origins of the upheavals date back to 2009 during the disputed national election campaign. However, unlike starting in Serbia in 2000 and then later in Georgia, Ukraine, Moldova and unsuccessfully in Iran and Belarus, this insurrection is organic. This not a State Department/NATO "colour revolution". As in Tunisia, the masses are fed up with the entrenched corruption of the ruling governing elite. What makes Albania even more unique is that the Socialist opposition is leading the revolt, unlike the Socialist and Social Democratic parties of other countries which have suppressed mass opposition. Still, one mustn't be too naive about the motivations of Edi Rama. He's probably no less corrupt than Prime Minister Sali Berisha. Most likely, Rama is a cynical opportunist using the masses as a cat's paw to pursue his own political ambitions and agenda. This is the latest news report courtesy of Euronews:

Arizona: Tea Party Dictatorship State

From Democracy Now!
In an article by Harper’s Magazine Washington editor Ken Silverstein argues that Arizona has become a laboratory not just for immigration policy, but a broad range of issues. It’s a place, he writes, where the Tea Party is arguably the ruling party, and should the Republicans retake nationwide power, "the country might start to resemble the right-wing desert that Arizona has become."

White Power USA

From People & Power program on Al Jazeera English:
Two years ago the election of Barack Obama, the US president, was hailed as a turning point in US race relations. The country was said to be entering a new era of post-racial politics, on the path to a future of greater diversity and tolerance.
But while crowds flocked to Washington to witness their new leader's inauguration, others were refusing to join the party. Racially motivated threats against Obama rose to new heights in the first months of his presidency, with the US seeing nine high-profile race killings in 2009.
Meanwhile white supremacist and neo-Nazi groups claim their membership is growing and that visits to their websites are increasing.

100 Years Ago: Mentally Retarded Black Man Hung In Kentucky

From World Socialist Website

On January 30, 1911, James White, a mentally retarded black youth aged 16, was hung in front of a crowd of thousands in Middlesboro, Kentucky, for the alleged crime of raping a white girl. State Attorney General James Breathitt determined that White could not understand the charges against him, and asked Governor Augustus Wilson to commute the sentence. Wilson acknowledged White was “mentally imperfect,” but determined to carry on with the execution, arguing “if his case is not punished by death, [it] is dangerous to the whole state.”

Sport As The Religion of Capitialism: An Interview With Ljubodrag Simonovic

It was estimated that more than one billion people around the world viewed last year’s World Cup football tournament in South Africa. Billed as “the biggest sporting event in the world”, it has produced a bonanza for the multinational corporations which sponsor it.
While many people are aware and criticize the commercialization of mass sporting events such as the World Cup and the Olympics, few understand the role that sport plays as a fundamental keystone to the global capitalist order.
During the tournament, I spoke with Ljubodrag Simonovic about the role sport plays under capitalism. Simonovic is not what one expects of a philosopher. He was a star player for the national basketball team of  Yugoslavia in the early 1970s. He quit the team after walking out of the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich to protest the use of doping by the  Puerto Rico team. Since then, Simonovic earned his Doctorate in Philosophy. One rarely equates athletes with philosophers, let alone intellectuals which makes his theories all the more compelling.
Simonovic is the author of two recent books: The Philosophy of Olympisim and A New World Is Possible. Sport is central to his philosophical critique against capitalism.

Why Barack Obama Is Not A Socialist

Over the past 2 years since President Barack Obama’s inauguration, the American right wing universe has been abuzz about President Obama being a Socialist and how he and the Congressional Democrats are bringing Socialism to America. These ideas hold great currency within the Tea Party movement egged on by the  Fox News Channel host Glenn Beck as well as the Libertarian radio host Alex Jones. More recently, Republican Senatorial candidate for the State of  DelawareChristine O’Donnell attacked her Democratic opponent Chris Coons as a Marxist.  The reason why the right wing believes Obama is a Socialist stems mostly from the passage of Health Care Reform Bill. There is also a strain of paranoia that Obama and the Democrats want to take away the  2nd Amendment Constitutional right to bear arms. We shall demonstrate why neither Obama nor the Democrats are Socialists and how the United States is far from Socialism.

A Message To My Readers

I started Adventures of Der Kosmonaut nearly 5 years ago at the suggestion of my room mate in Montreal. Blogging was still a relatively new trend on the Internet at the time. Blogs had yet to become as popular or as powerful as they are presently with start of the second decade of this century.
Initially, the blog was intended to showcase my poetry and literary writings along with social and political commentary. The blog was also intended to be a travel log reflecting my impressions from my global adventures as a nomadic bohemian poet. Though I was computer literate and had been using the Net for a decade, I knew next to nothing about the mechanics of the world wide web. If you were to ask me about about Search Engine Optimisation or SOE, I would have drawn a blank. Moreover, I had a very small audience at the very beginning consisting of my small circle of friends in Montreal and the few contacts that I had in Austria and the US. Though I was sure that there were other readers that came in from time to time, they were few and far between.
