Style Wars

This documentary about New York City subway graffiti artists and the battle with the city and Metropolitan Transit Authority publicised the then world famous art style which became the most prominent iconic symbol of New York during the 1970s and 80s. The film follows graffiti artists of all ages as they "bomb" the subway cars both underground and in the yards. There are hilarious interviews with then Mayor Ed Koch and the Chairman of the MTA. The film shows how by 1982, the city of New York began to re-asset authority and begin to "clean up" the city by cracking down on graffiti. Still in contrast, the crackdown was relatively harmless and tame compared to the police terror tactics used by Giuliani starting in 1994-5.
