Here's the Risk: "Occupy" Ends Up Doing The Bidding of the Global Elite

By Patrick Henningsen

History shows us it is easy for 'grassroots' campaigns to become co-opted by the very interests they are fighting against.

A 21st-century grassroots movement faces many pitfalls. This was as true back in 1968 as it is today. It could be infiltrated by law enforcement and intelligence agencies, or co-opted by a major party. As the state continues to creep further into our lives, activists can expect that it will use all its resources – not just the violent reaction seen in New York overnight, but also its agents, informants and surveillance packages – in its effort to monitor both sides of any serious social debate. Even bleaker, however, is the possibility that the movement was actually planned and launched by the very establishment activists thought they were waging a battle against in the first place. The larger the movement, the more interested a major party becomes in absorbing it into either the left or the right side of the current two-party paradigm.

NATO, Turkey Prepare For War Against Syria

Editor's note: On 4th August 2011Adventures of Der Kosmonaut was the first English language website to warn and predict how NATO led by Turkey was planning to overthrow the Syrian government of President Bashar al-Assad. Since then events have unfolded exactly as predicted. We are now one large step closer to Global War.

From World Socialist Website
By Jean Shaoul
The Arab League’s three-day ultimatum to the Baathist regime of President Bashar al-Assad to implement a one-sided peace plan expired, with Assad refusing to back down.
The ultimatum included demands on the Syrian regime to halt the attacks on protesters, withdraw its tanks from restive cities, release all political prisoners, engage in a dialogue with the opposition and admit observers into the country. There were no corresponding demands on the oppositionists, who are widely acknowledged to be armed. As such, the demands were expressly designed to elicit just such a refusal and provide a fig leaf for another campaign of regime change in the resource-rich Middle East.
Assad accused the Arab League of creating a pretext for Western intervention that would trigger an “earthquake” across the Middle East.
“After eight months the picture is clear to us… It is not a question of peaceful demonstrations but an armed operation,” he told the Sunday Times.

US Nuclear-Powered Submarines Near Venezuela and the “Benghazi Formula”

by Nil Nikandrov
On November 10, H. Chavez called Contragolpe host Vanessa Davies in the middle of the show to break the news that a US nuclear-powered submarine had been spotted in the country's territorial waters. According to Chavez's on-air account, an “unidentified” and “large-size” submarine appeared on the radars of the Venezuelan submarine fleet which was conducting regular exercise, but, being an extremely fast-moving vehicle, easily escaped the Venezuelan boats that took to trailing it. Chavez stressed that the Venezuelan navy responded to the provocation with due restraint and did not open fire during the incident.

NATO, AFRICOM and the New White Man's Burden

From Black Agenda Report
By Harold Green

With their claim of intellectual and moral superiority echoed by Rudyard Kipling's infamously imperialistic poem, these European powers took full control of the land and lives of their new African subjects. Africa, having not fully recovered from the ravages of both the Trans-Atlantic and the Trans-Saharan Slave Trades, was ill prepared for what was to follow.

The State Terror and Repression of Epizentrum

11 November 2011
By Der Kosmonaut

On Tuesday November 8, Epizentrum was evicted by an overwhelming show of force. The Vienna police deployed more than 100 officers, plus an armoured assault vehicle and a helicopter against 26 unarmed occupants of Epizentrum. The absurdity of this mass show of force was further punctuated by the peaceful manner that the occupants voluntarily left. Did the police and authorities really believe they were facing a reincarnation of the Rote Armee Fraktion (RAF). No one in 21st Century Western Europe will ever attempt to repeat the fıasco of the RAF. Had not the Staatspolizei (Secret Police) spies reported there wern't any weapons stashed in the building and that there was never once any discussion of violent confrontation with the authorities? The Austrian media had also antıcıpated and giddy for a violent conflict. The right wing media complained that the occupiers were "softies". That the occupiers didn't put up a fight. Of course, had the occupiers violently resisted, then the media would have denounced them as "violent terrorists". In the event, the police and media looked liked fools.

Belarus Prepares to Confront NATO Military Aggression

By Gearóid Ó Colmáin

On Novermber 4th, President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko told reporters in Grodno, that  the NATO terrorists who murdered Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi were worse than the Nazis. The President of Belarus said:
““There was an act of aggression and the national leaders, including Gaddafi, were killed. He was not killed on a battlefield. NATO security services helped abduct the national leader. He was tortured and shot and treated worse than the Nazi did in their time. Libya was destroyed as a sovereign state”

Epizentrum Wien Evicted

8 November 2011
By Der Kosmonaut
Shortly after 11 AM Central European Time, the police evicted Epizentrum. It came as a surprise to the occupants. The eviction didn't follow the usual protocols of an eviction. Normally, evictions take place early in the morning between the hours of 6 and 8. This morning there wasn't any indication of an impending eviction.

I was present in the Epizentrum when the police arrived. They were accompanied by Green Party functionaries. Apparently, the Greens wanted to supervise the operation to ensure there would be no abuse and violence by the police. It's telling that the Greens show their faces only behind the police. The Greens have revealed themselves as the party of state repression. If the Greens were actually the party of social justice, they would have given advanced warning.

Epizentrum Wien Enters Its Fourth Week

7 November 2011
By Der Kosmonaut

To the surprise of the occupiers themselves and undoubtedly to the dismay of the reactionaries, Epizentrum in Vienna still remains.  Last Wednesday's threat of eviction did not materialise nor does it seem that there is any danger that it will be evicted in the coming days.

Political Silence
With the exception of the far right wing leader of the Neubau FPÖ, the silence from municipal and national politicians is deafening. In the fourth week of Epizentrum next door, the Greens have not uttered a word. I attempted to speak to a media representative or spokesperson for the Greens to ask some questions. After being grilled about my journalistic credentials from some manager of Green Party Headquarters, I was told that the Greens did not have anything to comment about. Attempts to get comments from BUWOG were even more fruitless. I have been left on hold for 30-45 minutes before being disconnected.

Oppose the Extradition of Julian Assange

The decision last week by the High Court in London to dismiss the appeal of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange of his extradition to Sweden is an attack on democratic rights.
The judgement by Sir John Thomas and Mr. Justice Ouseley upheld the February 2011 decision by District Judge Howard Riddle at Belmarsh Magistrates Court for extradition, rejecting every issue of substance in Assange’s appeal.
Relying on antidemocratic and arbitrary European Arrest Warrant (EAW) legislation, the judges pronounced, “The Prosecutor must be entitled to seek to apply the provisions of Swedish law to the procedure once it has been determined that Mr. Assange is an accused and is required for the purposes of prosecution.”

The Libya I Once Knew

From Global Research

By Georges Bourdokan

I was in Libya in September 1979 on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the Revolution that brought Gaddafi to power. I was accompanied by camera-man Luis Manse and operator Nagra Nelson Belo (where would they be nowadays?). We were there to make the Special TV program for Globo, of which I was the director in Sao Paulo.
First surprise. The hotel where the government told us to stay was fully occupied by diplomats. I asked the ambassador of Brazil the reason for this concentration. The answer surprised me even more. In Gaddafi's Libya, rents were forbidden. Those Libyans who did not have a home, all they needed was to make a request to the government and it immediately arranged to start building one. The country was a huge construction site, by the way.

British High Court dismisses appeal by WikiLeaks’ Julian Assange against extradition

From World Socialist Website

By Robert Stevens

On Wednesday, the High Court in London dismissed the appeal by WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange against his extradition to Sweden on frame-up charges of rape and sexual assault.
The hearing took place nearly four months after the two presiding High Court judges, Sir John Thomas and Mr Justice Ouseley, deferred Assange’s appeal against a February 24, 2011, ruling that he could be extradited.

Epizentrum Update

2 November 2011
By Der Kosmonaut

The treat of eviction was and remains real. Once again the Austrian state is practicing psyops and doing it perfectly.
While people have come to Epizentrum to support it is still too few. The power is cut. However the occupants have their own portable generators. The media room, from which this report is being written, has power. There is power in other parts of Epizentrum but power is cut in the most of the buildings.

It appears there will be no eviction tonight. Everyone expects it to be around 6 AM tomorrow. It's tense and relaxed at the same time. People are socialising and communicating with each other. The human warmth and compassion is very strong here. There is neither Thought Control nor Totalitarian Capitialism within the confines of Epizentrum. It makes it all the reason why the ruling elite want to smash it.

I'm using someone else's PC and the battery is almost empty.
Epizentrum bliebt!

BUWOG, the owner of the property of Epizentrum Wien, has given a deadline for the premises to be vacated by 18:00 Central European time. All power has been cut. The police have given an ultimatum that any reistance to the eviction will be met with force, arrests and prosecution.

America's Geo-Political Isolation and Decline

2 November 2011

By Der Kosmonaut

The decision by the United Nations General Assembly on the admittance of Palestine to UNESCO is an unmistakable sign that the United States of America has irreversibly lost its international power and influence. This comes a week after President Obama was forced to withdraw all US military personnel out of Iraq. This follows a month after the UN General Assembly overwhelming voted to accept the application of Palestinian statehood. Moreover, Hillary Clinton was rebuffed by Pakistan when she pressed for the Pakistani military to intervene in Afghanistan. When Clinton threatened to invade Pakistan, this merely straightened the country's resolve to refuse. These developments have occurred in the teeth of fierce American opposition.

Revolutionary Music: A Review of The Martyr From Immortal Technique

2 Novemeber 2011
By Der Kosmonaut

2011 has turned out to be one of the most critical years in human history. It is the year of revolutionary upheavals and counter-revolution. The euphoria that billions around the world put in Obama's hope and change rhetoric has evaporated. This year followed the same trend. The euphoria over the Tunisian and Egyptian revolutions have led to horror and repulsion of counter-revolution. The gang rape of Libya which culminated in the gruesome lynching of Muammar Gaddafi has caused to widespread disgust. As this blog has reiterated all year, we are living in deadly serious and gruesome times.

On the other hand, 2011 is turning out to be one the best years in music since 2003. Immortal Technique has arguably made one of the best albums of the year. His new album The Martyr is the most politically revolutionary albums ever recorded. The Colombian born but Harlem, New York reared rapper first made his mark musically with his track Bin Laden, which demolished the official story of 9/11/01 and laid bare the predatory aims of American capitalism. Most recently, Immortal Technique made an early appearance at Occupy Wall Street during the first days. The Martyr is the most timely album to be released during the present era of mass resistance against totalitarian capitalism.
