They Live-John Carpenter (1988)

Influenced by Soylent Green, film director John Carpenter produced this 1988 political film about propaganda and fascism.
The place: Los Angles. The time: Now. The American economy is shot to hell. Rampant mass unemployment and homelessness afflicts the nation. Apart from the economic destruction, the political arrangements seem the same. There is still democracy and freely elected politicians. Of course, like today, the society is a police state. But there's more to reality than meets the eye. There are those among us that look human but are not. Upon viewing this film, one will finally see what really lies behind the masks of Obama, Bush, Blair, and Sarkozy.
